Thanks for joining me for the final installment in the series: Reflections on the Stairway to Heaven. This has been a very long, very arduous study of various esoteric definitions thus far. If you are just joining, it is highly recommended that you start here.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
And she’s buying the stairway to heaven
As we wind on down the spiral serpent path of life and the “Stairway to Heaven” we enter into the Crown Chakra, were the divine connects us with the universal consciousness. The truth (White light) is available to all and its song calls to us. The Lady could be a symbol for the World Card in the Tarot deck, the Divine Universal Feminine.
The gold can symbolize all the joy and bliss that await us when we learn to listen to the intuition, to be still and to recognize each other as brothers on the same journey. Like the Alchemists, we too can turn everything to gold as we learn to find the silver lining in every cloud. Enlightenment brings us to this eternal place of joy, often referred to as Nirvana- The rock of peace that stills all the rolls of craving, according to Buddha.
Here in this Nirvana, we find a divine state of eternal bliss, the union between masculine and feminine energy, the freedom to choose and choosing the path of peace and love and harmony. It’s an ongoing process; there’s many things perceived as negative, that we must “Turn to gold”, much work still to do, many dark corners in which we need to shine our light , and many others to help climb the stairs. This is a song about hope, a song of Revelations. Its message is clear, its wisdom is timeless.
Before reflecting on all the messages in all of the lessons and this final one let us refer to Gaskells one last time.
Light- A symbol of Truth, Wisdom and Knowledge, and of the consciousness which apprehends reality or relativity in each.
In the final verse, we repeat the line from the first, showing us that each end is a new beginning, as above, so below, and the circle of life continues.
I have always loved this band and their music and now that I am able to divine this message amongst the lyrics I have so mindlessly belted all of these years, I have a profound new interest in my all-time favorite band.
Robert Plant, has been storied to follow some esoteric traditions. IN all of my other research, I have never been able to find any facts that support this interpretation. Aside from the Gentleman at Philosopher’s Wheel. He does go a little bit deeper into the numerology of the song than I have and I highly recommend you read his interpretation as well, if you haven’t already, it is much shorter than mine, and it will only be a quick read. Don’t worry, it is not another 7 day series.
While trying to find some photos for this series, I also came across this. While I have not had a chance to review their site thoroughly, I do believe I see some really juicy stuff, that I am apt to explore.
Perhaps the reason Mr. Plant denies any esoteric meaning of this song lies in the whispering wind, perhaps his muse paid him a visit to that cottage in Hampshire? Perhaps the band Taurus heard the same whisper.
I hope you enjoyed this series, it has truly been a labor of love. Please tell me what you think! I would love to hear your comments below. Would you like to see more of these? What are your favorite songs, with hidden messages?
